UrbanRio is an exciting, new Mexican Cantina and Grill located in the original Old Downtown Plano Ice House!
After bringing to the area an original wood-fired pizza concept with Urban Crust in 2009, the Shea’s purchased
the Old Downtown Plano Ice House at 1000 E. 14th Street (one block South of Urban Crust) and began envisioning a “sister”
concept for the area.
UrbanRio – “the River of the City” is just East of the DART Rail tracks in Downtown Plano – (thus, the “Steel River” of Plano!)
The exciting flavors of UrbanRio will come from all-sides of the Rio Grande River! Providing the freshest and most authentic
ingredients, the dining experience will be orchestrated by Executive Chef Ryan Olmos, native of the Rio Grande
Valley area and former Executive Chef of eatZi’s.
The first floor dining room features designs from Cal Young (CYA Designs Collective) and brings in the colors
and the textures of the river valley. The water feature (the Rio) is visible for all to enjoy as well as the
hand-made and hand-ground masa tortilla station and guacamole being created in the authentic "over-sized" molcajete.
The second floor features the “On the Rocks” cantina and brings in original designs from the Ice House of 1917.
With freshly muddled “On the Rocks” Carafes, Signature Margaritas, and six tequilas on tap, the bar is open-aired
with a phenomenal sun-setting patio overlooking Downtown Plano and the DART Rail.
The drinks are cold, the environment is hot, and the salsa is the best you’ll find on either side of the Rio!
